Of things unseen how canst thou deem aright,
Then answered the righteous Artegall,
Sith thou misdeem'st so much of things in sight?
What though the sea with waves continual
Do eat the earth, it is no more at all:
Nay is the earth the less, or loseth ought,
For whatsoever from one place doth fall,
Is with the tide unto an other brought:
For there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought.

Who am I? There are days when I’m not even sure I know the answer to that question. Most days, I am a costume designer whose work encompasses live theatre, dance, opera, and the occasional commercial film and corporate events professionally for over twenty years. My favorite designs often encompass historical or whimsical pieces. However, I enjoy working on plays depicting real life in the here and now, too (sometimes they are the most poignant).
I immensely enjoy watching a costume design come to fruition from the research and rendering process focusing on directorial concept to incorporating the craft of cutting and pattern drafting all the way through to adding those final details that bring the character to life. Whether I have a big or small budget, I enjoy finding ways of recycling or evolving old costumes into bright and new lively pieces. I enjoy working with casts of diversity of color, age, gender and personality to bring inventive characters to life.
Oh, and I am a firm believer in remembering that fairy dust only happens at twilight and you must collect a lot of it to make all the really good costumes!
